Acorn Collecting
Acorns are needed each year for our Native American Camp Field Trip. Please help us out by collecting clean, useable acorns for our classes. The acorns will be dried for a year and used for next year's 4th graders.
.
When collecting, please remember to check your surroundings. Do not collect where you are too close to traffic. If collecting off trail, check for poison ivy or other dangerous plants. Also, do not collect acorns on private property.

- Acorns come from Oak Trees
- There are many Oak Trees all around the city of La Verne/San Dimas/Glendora etc.
- Our school is on Holly Oak - yes, we have acorns very close by
- Please collect as many acorns as you can find
- they need to be whole - not smashed - not rotten - not chewed on
- Please keep them in a paper bag or cardboard box.
- they will get moldy and rotten if stored in plastic
- No, those are not maggots (yes, they look like maggots) - Click here to see them
- The tiny white bugs are Acorn Larvae which will become Acorn Weevils
- See the tiny hole in the acorn? That acorn is no good to us because it already has a grub (larvae) in it.
- You may want to store the bag/box of acorns in the garage or covered patio
- Bring the acorns to school as soon as you collect a bag or small box full.
